Have Your Brow Tails Disappeared? Here’s Why It Happens (And What You Can Do About It)

Have you found yourself reaching for your eyebrow pencil every morning because the outer ends of your brows seem to have disappeared?

If so, you’re certainly not alone.

One of the most common concerns I hear from women in their 40s, 50s and beyond is that their eyebrows have become thinner over time, particularly the tails. It often happens so gradually that one day you suddenly realise your brows no longer frame your face in the way they once did.

The good news is that there are options to restore them naturally.

Why do brow tails disappear?

There are many reasons why eyebrows lose volume over time, including:

  • Ageing
  • Hormonal changes and menopause
  • Over-plucking in earlier years
  • Certain medical conditions, such as thyroid disorders
  • Some medications and medical treatments
  • Genetics
  • Changes in the skin and hair growth cycle

For many women, it’s the tails of the eyebrows that disappear first. This can make the eyes appear less lifted and the face lose some of its natural definition.

Can permanent makeup help?

For many clients, yes.

Permanent makeup isn’t about creating bold or obvious eyebrows. Modern techniques allow us to recreate incredibly natural-looking brows that blend beautifully with your own hair.

The key is choosing the right technique for your skin, your existing brow hair and the result you want to achieve.

This client’s journey

The lovely lady featured here had gradually lost volume throughout her brows, with the tails becoming particularly sparse.

Rather than creating a heavy block of colour, I used hyper-realistic pixelated hairstrokes to carefully recreate the appearance of individual hairs.

The aim wasn’t to give her “new eyebrows”. It was to restore what time had gradually taken away.

The finished result gives her brows more structure and definition while still looking soft, natural and completely believable.

Many people wouldn’t realise she’s had permanent makeup. They’ll simply notice that she looks refreshed.

Every set of brows is individually designed

No two faces are the same, which is why every treatment begins with a detailed consultation.

When designing your brows, I consider:

  • Your facial proportions
  • Natural brow hair pattern
  • Muscle movement and facial expressions
  • Skin type and texture
  • Existing permanent makeup, if any
  • Hair colour and skin tone
  • Your lifestyle and makeup preferences
  • How natural or defined you would like your brows to appear

Some clients are best suited to hyper-realistic hairstrokes, while others achieve a better long-term result with powder brows or a combination technique. My role is to recommend the option that will give you the most flattering and long-lasting outcome.

Natural results are always my priority

My philosophy has always been simple: people should notice you, not your permanent makeup.

Beautiful brows should frame your face, restore confidence and save you time each morning, all without looking artificial.

Could this be right for you?

If you’ve noticed your brows becoming thinner, your tails disappearing or you’re spending more time filling them in every day, permanent makeup could be an option worth exploring.

A consultation gives us the opportunity to discuss your concerns, assess your skin and brow hair, answer your questions and decide whether permanent makeup is the right choice for you.

There is never any pressure to proceed, just honest advice tailored to you.
