Lip blush is one of the most popular treatments at our Tetbury clinic, but it’s also one of the treatments that generates the most questions afterwards.
Many clients are surprised by how quickly their lips heal and even more surprised when the colour seems to disappear completely before gradually returning.
If you’re considering lip blush, or you’ve recently had treatment, here’s what you can expect during the healing process.
Why Do Lips Heal So Quickly?
The lips are one of the fastest-healing areas of the body.
This is because they have an excellent blood supply, with lots of tiny blood vessels close to the skin’s surface. These vessels deliver oxygen and nutrients to the area, helping the tissue repair itself efficiently.
The skin on the lips is also much thinner than the skin on areas such as the eyebrows or scalp. This means healing can happen more rapidly than many people expect.
Whilst every client heals slightly differently, most people find that the visible healing stage is relatively short.
Day 1: Freshly Treated Lips
Immediately after treatment, your lips will appear brighter, more defined and more intense than the final healed result.
This is completely normal.
There may be some mild swelling, particularly during the first 24 hours, but this usually settles quickly.
Many clients worry that the colour looks too strong at this stage. In reality, the healed result will be much softer.
Days 2-4: Colour Begins to Soften
As healing progresses, the lips may feel slightly dry or tight.
The colour often begins to soften and lighten as the upper layers of skin start to renew themselves.
This stage is usually very manageable, and most clients feel comfortable continuing with their normal daily activities.
Days 4-10: The “Where Has My Colour Gone?” Stage
This is the stage that catches most people by surprise.
Many clients look in the mirror and feel that all of the colour has disappeared.
It hasn’t.
As the lips heal, fresh skin forms over the pigment, temporarily masking the colour beneath. Think of it like looking through frosted glass. The pigment is still there, but it’s not yet visible in its true form.
This stage is completely normal and expected.
Weeks 2-6: Colour Returns
As the healing process continues, the skin becomes clearer and more transparent.
Gradually, the pigment begins to reappear, revealing the healed colour.
This is when clients start to see the soft, natural enhancement that lip blush is known for.
Why Is a Second Appointment Needed?
Lip blush is always performed as a two-stage process.
The first appointment creates the foundation.
The refinement appointment allows us to assess how your lips have retained pigment, make any adjustments and build colour where needed.
Every person’s skin heals differently, which is why this second appointment is so important.
Is Lip Blush Right for You?
Lip blush can help create the appearance of more defined lips, restore lost colour, improve symmetry and reduce the need for daily lipstick application.
The goal isn’t to create heavily tattooed lips. It’s to create a soft, natural enhancement that helps you look fresher and feel more confident.
