One of the biggest concerns I hear from women considering permanent makeup is that they do not want their eyebrows to look too heavy, too dark or obviously “done”.
For many clients, the goal is much simpler.
They want their brows to look like their own, just a little fuller, better shaped and easier to live with.
That was exactly the aim with this lovely client who visited the clinic recently.
Working with the brows you already have
She already had a good amount of natural brow hair, which gave me a lovely base to work with.
Rather than creating a completely new eyebrow shape, I wanted to enhance what was already there.
After a thorough consultation, we agreed that a soft hairstroke brow would suit her beautifully.
Individual hairstrokes were added through the brow to create more definition and balance, while the overall shape was carefully positioned to gently lift the eye area and frame her eyes.
The result still looks like her.
Her brows, just better.
What are hairstroke brows?
Hairstroke brows are a form of permanent makeup designed to mimic the appearance of natural eyebrow hairs.
Fine strokes are placed through the brow to help fill sparse areas, improve shape and create the appearance of a fuller eyebrow.
They can be particularly effective for clients who still have some natural brow hair but have noticed that their brows have become thinner, patchier or less defined over time.
Rather than looking like makeup sitting on top of the skin, the aim is to blend the hairstrokes with the client’s existing brow hair.
Can permanent makeup brows still look natural?
Absolutely.
Natural-looking permanent makeup is less about creating a perfect, identical brow on every client and much more about working with your individual face, colouring, natural hair growth and personal preferences.
Before any treatment begins, we discuss the look you would like to achieve and carefully plan the shape.
I am always looking for a result that feels balanced and flattering rather than following a particular brow trend.
For some clients that means very subtle hairstrokes.
For others, a combination or softly shaded brow may be more suitable.
The right technique depends on your natural brows, skin and the result you want.
A low-maintenance option
One of the reasons many women choose permanent makeup eyebrows is convenience.
Brows can become more difficult to shape and fill as we get older, particularly if the hair has become finer or areas have become sparse.
Permanent makeup can create a reliable framework for the brow, so you do not have to recreate the shape with a pencil every morning.
You can still add makeup if you want a stronger look for an evening or special occasion, but day to day the brows already have shape and definition.
Worried your brows will look too strong?
Fresh permanent makeup will always look stronger immediately after treatment.
The colour softens during the healing process and the final result is assessed once the skin has healed.
This is why I prefer to take a considered approach.
It is far easier to add a little more at a retouch appointment than to start with a brow that feels too heavy.
The goal is not for people to notice your permanent makeup.
It is for your brows to frame your face beautifully and for you to feel more confident when you look in the mirror.
