If you’ve ever visited our clinic, you’ve probably noticed one thing almost immediately…
There’s usually an 80s playlist playing in the background.
It’s become a bit of a trademark!
Some clients sing along quietly, others laugh because they haven’t heard a song in years, and every now and then we end up having a full-on discussion about who was better, Duran Duran or Spandau Ballet.
For me, music has always been a huge part of creating the atmosphere I want clients to experience.
Having permanent makeup or a skin treatment can feel daunting, especially if it’s your first visit. Music helps people relax. It breaks the silence, gives us something to chat about and often brings back happy memories. Before long, nerves start to disappear.
If I had to choose one favourite band, though, there’s no competition.
It’s a-ha.
I’ve been a fan for decades and have seen them live many times, even travelling to Oslo, Norway, to watch them perform in their home country.
At home, I have a framed collection of a-ha memorabilia that takes pride of place in my living room. It always makes me smile and reminds me of some incredible concerts and memories over the years.
And here’s a random fact that not many people know…
One day, I’d love to own an original animation cel from the iconic Take On Me music video. The combination of pencil-sketch animation and live action was revolutionary at the time, and it’s still one of my favourite music videos ever made.
It’s funny how music connects people.
Some of my clients have discovered we share the same favourite bands, while others have introduced me to artists I’d never listened to before. Those little conversations are often what transform an appointment into a genuinely enjoyable experience.
So next time you’re in the clinic and an 80s classic comes on, don’t be surprised if we’re both singing along.
